Thoughts on building, living, coding, and creating.

Let's stop lying to ourselves. We are drowning in a world of comfort and access. We've been sold the lie that the ultimate goal is work-life balance — a perfect equilibrium where you give just enough of your soul to your craft to keep the lights on, while saving the rest for a lifestyle you haven't actually earned yet.

Exactly two years ago, on Valentine's Day 2024, my world was supposed to be a textbook success story. I had the vision, I had the grind, and I thought I had the girl by my side. Instead, that day became the date of a total internal detonation.

I'm building an AI startup right now — in stealth, from the ground up. Here's the honest playbook: what I'm doing, why now, and what I've already learned from moving fast in one of the most competitive spaces in tech.

I've just moved to Saadiyat Island, and it already feels like one of those rare places that doesn't just hold space, it shapes you. Everything here is intentional.

If there's one word that defines how I move, build, think, and grow, it's discipline. Not the kind people post online to get likes. The kind that happens in the quiet. When no one's watching.

When Bolt.new announced the Bolt Hackathon, I didn't overthink it. I signed up instantly. I wasn't doing it for the prizes or the exposure. I just wanted to test myself — and I walked away a two-time winner.

So here's the truth — I'm not your typical coder. I didn't grow up writing Python scripts or doing LeetCode for fun. I just had ideas, loads of them. And I wanted to build. Fast.

When I first touched down in the UAE, I came with ambition in my pocket and a deep curiosity about the region. What I didn't expect was just how quickly this place would become home, not just professionally, but personally too.

Before I was building apps, shipping code, or pitching ideas to investors, I was on the ground, literally, running logistics, managing property, and figuring out how to build real businesses in South Africa.

I've never believed in waiting for the right time. I move when there's momentum. From logistics to property, commodities to tech, my career has never followed one straight line, and that's exactly how I like it.

Let's be honest, I'm not a trained designer. I didn't go to design school, I never studied "the grid," and I still don't know half the names of the fonts I use. But what I do know is what looks good.

Startups aren't for everyone. They're messy, fast, unpredictable, and I've found myself right in the heart of them, again and again. Not by accident, but by choice.

In December 2024, I found myself back in a city that has never really left me. New York City in winter is something different. If you know, you know.

Growing up in South Africa, there are a few things that just become part of you, braais on the weekend, your favourite biltong spot, and of course, backing the Springboks.
